Chapter Twenty-Two

After Mikey had described what he saw in the GoGo Cam footage, Mac didn’t waste any time. He went straight to Vince with the login information. Mac drove right into the parking lot, perhaps with a speed not befitting of the legal limit. He didn’t care.

A uniformed policeman walking to his squad threw his hands up in the air. “Are you frickin’ kidding me, man?”

Mac parked the car right in front of the glass doors and tall, blue window-paned front entrance of the Geneva police station. He hopped out without the use of his cane.

“Hey! What the hell do you think you are doing?” The uniform’s footfalls sounded behind Mac.

“My brother is Detective Vince O’Malley and I need to get in there and talk to him about the Schroeder death. I have a key lead that can help. I am sorry. I will move the car in a minute.” Mac didn’t even bother to turn around and entered the police station.

The front desk clerk stood up, slightly alarmed. “Can I help you, sir?”

“Vince in?”

“Oh yes, duh, you are Mac, the hero of the Chicago marathon! Nice to meet you!” The clerk picked up the phone and dialed Vince. “Your brother is here.”

“Hey, he can’t park there!” The uniform walked in.

“Relax, he is Vince’s brother.” The desk clerk smiled.

The uniform threw his hands up and walked out.

“Yeah, I am Vince’s brother.” Mac turned to the uniform.

“Mac, what the hell are you doing here? This better be good.” Vince sipped his thermal mug. Probably his fifth tankard of caffeine today.
